UA Student Recreation and Wellness Center

University of Akron

$23,000,000

The Student Recreation and Wellness Center project provided for the construction of a recreation facility for the students attending the University of Akron. The Facility includes five full-sized basketball courts, a recreational pool, running track, wellness center, locker rooms, office space, classroom space and a 52-foot climbing wall. Through the course of this project, one of the older buildings on campus, Spicer Hall, was removed to make way for this new structure. While Spicer Hall was not a historic structure, there was a desire to maintain the history lost with it’s demolition. This was accomplished by removing portions of the terra cotta architectural elements from the exterior of the building and incorporating them within the new building. The project was on time and within the $23 million dollar budget.
