Retention Tank No. 2 is located on the Southeastern part of Akron, Ohio near Kelly Avenue. The 3.9 million gallon retention facility was originally constructed in 1983 in order to equalize flow to the Little Cuyahoga Interceptor and to reduce overflows into the Little Cuyahoga River. The construction phase of this project included cleaning debris from the existing tank, and construction of the storm water screening facility, pumping equipment, electrical power, ventilation, architectural, site work, structural repairs, wash down system, bypass pumping, lighting and other associated work. Some of the project highlights include 1,800 LF of 12″ to 84″ sewer, construction within an existing landfill, a 36″ bore under the existing railroad tracks and rock excavation.
